VEEP will end after this upcoming season

The VEEP, the show that is known for its cracks on the ineptness in Washington D.C., is taking its final bow after this upcoming season.

David Mandel, executive producer on the show, took to Twitter to confirm the chit-chat about the VEEP ending.

Mandel tweeted, “Veep Will Come to a Bittersweet End in the Trump Era.” The VEEP’s ending comes as a surprise. The show has been one of the top shows for the past five years, earning and winning several Emmy Awards.

And I must say, unlike some shows that get awards for no other reason than it’s the politically correct thing to do, the VEEP has earned every award it’s won.

The VEEP has kept me rolling so that it’s brought tears to my eyes and had me hurting my sides from laughing so hard.

Take for instance the episode where Selina Meyer’s (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) trusted adviser, Amy Brookheimer (played by Anna Chlumsky), told Meyers that she was so dumb she couldn’t take a bath without the Coast Guard standing by.

Then there’s the episode with mother whereby Meyers only begins to shed tears over her mother after she finds out that her continuing employment as the first female president would be determined by the U.S. Senate.

And last but not least, the episode in Qatar whereby Meyers and her crew kept trying to up one on President Laura Montez by going back to the Sudanese feminist who allowed an adolescent girl to be married to a grown man.

Yep, the political hypocrisy is sad and funny all at the same time. So what is that you ask?

Why is it that the VEEP’s executives decided to end the show? Welp, Mandel did say that this year’s election of a real life VEEP character, Donald J. Trump Sr., as the 45th president of the United States kind of rained on their parade.

Trump’s antics from hocking his steaks, telling folks that Mexico is going to pay for that wall, to talking about grabbing the women folks “by the pussy” prove to be too much for Mandel and the VEEP crew to try and out do.

Vanity Fair quoted Mandel as saying in an essay for The Hollywood Reporter, “There was a 24-hour period when I thought, ‘Do people want to laugh at this stuff anymore? Is politics funny?’…So much of Veep is often just sitting around thinking: ‘What’s the dumbest thing that could happen?’ They’re doing stuff that we couldn’t invent if we tried.’”

I do agree that it will be difficult for some folks to try and top all the crazy stuff that ol’ Trump does and say. But the one group of folks who would be able to top ol’ Trump are the VEEPLE People.

Never once, in the five years that the show’s been on that I’ve said, “This some dry shit here.”

The VEEP has kept my attention and kept me rolling. But most importantly, the show’s team did an excellent job of using humor to make its audience think about who they are sending to D.C. and if politics is just one big comedy show with a cast of fools.

So in that respect, I can see why Mandel wanted to end the show. Trump’s winning the 2016 presidential election was just too much reality for the VEEP’s crew to take. Yep, fiction has become reality.

It’s just such a shame to see the VEEP go. Good thing we all have DVRs, DVDS, and re-runs on HBO.
